Replacable Batteries and Responsible Design (kick 2)

derin korman Jul 15, 2015 04:26PM CDT

Your spot unit had the wonderful user replacable battery. Even the big consumable companies have gone the servicable battery route (megaboom for example) it is sad to see that the kick 2 has been released without a servicable battery and a non standard charger.

I was wondering if it is within possibility to sell battery replacement kits for users so that they can continue using their units beyond the one year warranty after their batteries lose charge or cease to function. Obviously this would void the warranty when done prior to the end of life, but that is not our concern.

To design a product so that it ends up in a landfill in no more than two years seems more than irresponsible.

Derin, thank you for your interest in Soundfreaq, and we certainly understand your concern with a non user-replaceable battery. We have been offering free replacement batteries for the original Sound Kick, even out of warranty, so we are aware of the convenience of a replaceable battery.

The battery is not replaceable on the Kick 2 because it is designed as a waterproof unit. However, we do want to get our users up and running, even if they are out of warranty. We do offer out of warranty refurbish options, at a charge. We do not have a number yet, but it would not be more than half the retail cost of the unit.

In regards to the standard power adapter, are you referring to a USB charger? Unfortunately, only smaller speakers such as our Sound Spot or Pocket Kick can be charged by a USB cable, as it requires less power.

Hope that helps! Any other questions, please let us know.
